One successful manufacturing customer of ours was surprised to discover bad yields associated with some of their production equipment. They were also using some unique production processes to create their products. This information gave them the ability to analyse yields over time, allowing them to adjust their standards to reflect reality. When they purchased a new company that had the same brand of equipment, and was making the same products, they noticed in the Minotaur system, a large variance in the yields between those two production facilities. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that there was an issue with the equipment in the new facility that wasn’t identified before, causing poor yield in the products it made. Once this issue was identified, repair techs were called in to correct the issue and yields jumped to what was expected.
The reason this is interesting is because when you’re running a manufacturing company and there’s fires to put out, you often aren’t stopping to think about things from a high level, and worse still, it can take a great deal of time and energy to prepare reports that factor in every aspect of the business. Often, you can find value in your internal processes and in ways which you would not otherwise have thought to pursue, by having access to consolidated information in this manner.
